Greenbrier River Railroad Coming Soon!
The Greenbrier River Railroad is going to be built! Bids have been opened, and the contract is going to be awarded in a few days. The road will run from Caldwell to Marlinton, a distance of about 50 miles. It will follow the left bank of the Greenbrier River, on an easy grade. The construction will be like that of the Chesapeake & Ohio, with stone culverts and first-class workmanship. It will pass by Marble Hill, where the best building marble in the United States is located. Already, 800 working men have been hired. The goal is to complete the road by February.
Ronceverte and the surrounding areas are already showing signs of the economic activity that will follow the construction of the road. Ronceverte is already full of contractors and investors, some of whom are prospecting for coal, timber, and marble in the area. The Chesapeake & Ohio is also building a double track from Caldwell as far as the roadbed will allow, in order to accommodate the increased traffic.
This is exciting news for the people of West Virginia! The Greenbrier River Railroad will bring jobs and economic development to the area. It will also make it easier for people to get around and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Greenbrier Valley.
