FORT WARWICK Indians attacked Fort Warwick when all the men - save a colored man , a slave , who acted with great bravery on this occasion — were absent , the only other inmates being women and children .
But there was heard the loud voice of a woman giving orders of command as if there were a large garrison , and the savages retired .

Woman Warrior
When the men of Fort Warwick were away, A woman stood tall, brave as the day. With Indians attacking, her voice did resound, Her courage and strength, all around.
"Hold fast, my sisters!" she cried aloud, "Our men will return, make them proud!" With women and children, she stood her ground, Their safety her only thought, profound.
The savages heard her voice so bold, And thought a large garrison they behold. They retreated in fear, their spirits low, As the woman warrior's courage did glow.
Her name is unknown, but her story lives on, A woman of valor, brave and strong. She saved Fort Warwick that fateful day, And inspired all who heard her say:
"When darkness falls, and hope seems lost, Let your courage shine, and pay no cost. For even one voice, raised in the night,
