Huntersville

 

 

Huntersville is a small town in West Virginia with a rich history and culture. It was once the county seat of Pocahontas County until 1891, and it still preserves many historical sites and traditions. Some of the attractions you can visit in Huntersville are:

• The Huntersville Presbyterian Church, which was built in 1854 and has a third story bell tower added in 1896. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places¹.
• The Huntersville Jail, which was constructed in 1882 and served as the county jail until 1891. It is now owned and maintained by the Historical Society².
• The Civil War Cemetery, where several Southern soldiers who died of fever were buried on a secluded hill².
• The Old Huntersville School, which was built in 1880 near the site of an academy established in 1841. It was used as a schoolhouse until 1956².
