Near Edray, West Virginia, there are several mineral springs that have been used for their medicinal benefits for over 50 years.
These springs include the Warwick sulphur spring, the Duffield chalybeate spring, Duncan's chalybeate spring, and Smith's magnesia spring, all of which are located on the west branch of the Indian Draft. Other notable mineral springs in the area include the Clover Lick Salt Spring and Moore's magnesia spring, both located near Marlinton, and Moore's alum spring, also known as the natural lemonade spring, located on Brown's Creek.
The most remarkable group of mineral springs in the area is located on Laurel Run, four or five miles east of Hillsboro. This group consists of a fresh water spring and a purple sulphur spring that well up from the same rock within a yard or so of each other. The effects of these springs were once the subject of much wonder and gossip, especially among wet nurses.
