Prompts for Thinking Outside the Box:

Challenge Assumptions:

  • What if the opposite of our current solution is actually the answer?
  • What are the underlying assumptions we're making about this problem? Are they valid?
  • If the rules were completely different, how would we approach this situation?

Embrace Constraints:

  • What existing limitations can be turned into creative advantages?
  • How can we leverage what we have in new and unexpected ways?
  • Can we combine limitations from different areas to create a unique solution?

Shift Perspectives:

  • How would a child, an expert in a different field, or even an alien approach this problem?
  • Can we reframe the problem entirely to see it from a new angle?
  • What lessons can we learn from seemingly unrelated situations or historical events?

Encourage Randomness:

  • What random object or concept can spark a new idea?
  • Can we use word association games or mind maps to generate unexpected connections?
  • Let's list all possible solutions, even seemingly silly ones, and build upon them.

Break Down Silos:

  • Can we collaborate with people from different backgrounds and disciplines?
  • Can we seek inspiration from other industries or even artistic fields?
  • Let's explore unconventional partnerships and brainstorming sessions.

Embrace Experimentation:

  • What can we learn from failed attempts or unexpected outcomes?
  • Let's build prototypes cheaply and quickly to test our ideas iteratively.
  • How can we create a safe space for experimentation and embracing failure?
