Give me 30 examples of irony

Irony in Action:

  1. Verbal Irony: Saying the opposite of what you mean, like "That's great," with a sarcastic tone while something bad happens.
  2. Situational Irony: When the situation contradicts expectations, like a fire station burning down.
  3. Dramatic Irony: When the audience knows something a character doesn't, building suspense.

Examples:

Verbal Irony:

  1. "I love Mondays," said the worker dragging themselves to work.
  2. "That perfume is lovely," you say after someone oversprays.
  3. "Don't worry, I'm a terrible driver," right before getting behind the wheel.

Situational Irony:

  1. A book titled "How to Avoid Making Mistakes" has several typos.
  2. A lifeguard gets caught in a rip current.
  3. A thief gets robbed.

Dramatic Irony:

  1. In a horror movie, the character walks into a dark basement, unaware of the monster lurking there (known by the audience).
  2. In Romeo and Juliet, the families are feuding, unaware their children are in love.
  3. In a detective story, the detective doesn't realize the solution is right under their nose.

Other Examples:

  1. The inventor of the safety razor accidentally cuts himself badly while shaving.
  2. A book on procrastination constantly gets pushed back due to the author's procrastination.
  3. A language learning app crashes while you're trying to learn a new language.
  4. A sign that says "Wet Paint" is freshly painted and therefore dry.
  5. A warning label on a bottle of children's medicine reads "May cause drowsiness."
  6. A fire extinguisher malfunctions during a fire drill.
  7. A building with "No Parking" signs has a tow truck parked illegally.
  8. A store that sells hiking boots has a leaky roof.
  9. A person who hates public speaking becomes a politician.
  10. A book critic writes a poorly-received book.
  11. A class on logic and reasoning has a heated argument full of fallacies.
  12. A sign that says "Be back in 5 minutes" is unchanged hours later.
  13. A building with security cameras gets broken into.
  14. A "No Smoking" sign is near a broken vending machine full of cigarettes.
  15. A movie about the dangers of social media goes viral on social media.
  16. A documentary about truth and deception contains factual errors.
  17. A news report about a missing person gets lost in the mail.
  18. A company known for its customer service has terrible customer service.
  19. A building code inspector gets fined for building code violations in their own home.
  20. A person who is afraid of heights becomes a pilot.
  21. A song titled "Ironic" doesn't actually contain any true examples of irony (as the artist herself admitted).
