Canadian and Olive Petition Lucy and it appeared to the satisfaction of the Court that the said Lucy is now above the age of thirty years against the form of the Statute in such case made and provided. It is therefore ordered that the said Lucy be registered and in the 1st declaration of the State.
On the application of Isaac Littleton it is ordered that Charles Brown be appointed overseer of the road leading from the Court house by Jeremiah Austins to the end of his district, bounded on the North by William Hambleton and the South by Charles Journells, to which road the former overseer was appointed to keep the same road in repair.
Ordered that the Sheriff of the County summon the following persons for the Court to sit as Jurors at the Court house on the 4th Monday in this present month to wit Isaac Littleton Senr. Thomas Bell Senr. James Auston & John Poor Senr.
On the Petition & application of the Commissioners of the revenue it is order that the Sheriff of the County be authorized to levy on the personal property of the Securities of John Smith late Sherriff of this County for the balance due by him to the revenue.

Hooe & Benjamin Dulany Junr. & thereupon is admitted to record together with the certificate of their oaths which is ordered to be recorded.

On the Petition of William Jones for a dedimus Potestatem to take the privy examination of his wife Sarah Jones was awarded him returnable here to Court. from the house late in the tenure of the Court having formed it from the woods for which he has made no application to the Court for the timber cut thereon with interest from the 21st day of November 1818 till paid with costs and it is further ordered that the said Richard Scott be allowed to remain in the said house till the first day of January next on his entering into bond with security according to Law.
On the Petition of John Gordon Constable it is ordered that an enquiry be made touching the sanity of John Gordon Son of John Gordon Senr. on Monday the 16th day of this present month at his father's house and that the Sheriff summon a Jury consisting of twelve freeholders for that purpose who are ordered to attend and it is further ordered that Notice of this inquest be given to the said John Gordon Junr. and that William Jones, John Thornton, Hugh Brent be summoned to give evidence touching the premises.
It is ordered that William Nelson be allowed the sum of one dollar & fifty cents for two wolves heads by him exhibited here in Court and that the same be certified to the Auditor for payment.

Whereupon process was awarded against the said William Berry to appear here at the next Court to answer the said presentments.

Francis William Brooke Gentleman produced here in Court a Commission constituting him Sheriff of this County in the room of William Dickinson whose term of service has expired which was read & is ordered to be recorded.
Francis William Brooke Esquire took the oath of Sheriff of this County prescribed by Law together with the oath of fidelity to the Commonwealth.
It is ordered that the Commissioners be authorized to settle with the said William Dickinson late Sheriff for the taxes by him collected & the disbursements made & report the same to the next Court.
Ordered that the Sheriff summon the Commissioners to attend here at the next Court to make the report as aforesaid.

Ordered that Hugh Brent be appointed Guardian of the infant heirs of John T. Fitzhugh deed. and that he enter into bond with security according to Law in the Clerk's Office & that the Court will make such order touching the said infants as may be deemed advisable hereafter.
It is ordered that a writ of ad quod damnum issue to try if the Petition of the Court Superintendent of the Poor for leave to sell certain buildings and rent other buildings can be granted without injury to others. It is ordered that Reuben Thornton be appointed Guardian to keep a boy of colour named James who is now in the custody of James Simpson until further order of this Court and that the said Thornton enter into bond with security in the Clerk's Office in the sum of two hundred dollars for that purpose.
On the motion of Patrick Bryan who here in Court produced satisfactory evidence that he had imported a slave from South Carolina into this Commonwealth in the month of June 1823 and that the said slave was legally held to service by the Laws of South Carolina It is ordered that the said slave be registered according to Law.

The personal Estate of Benjamin Grymes deceased was this day returned into Court by William G. Grymes Administrator of the said Estate and the same is ordered to be recorded.

The Court proceeded to the trial of the action of unlawful detainer depending in this Court between William Berry Plaintiff and Richard Scott Defendant and the Jury empannelled & sworn returned the following verdict to wit
"We the Jury find for the Plaintiff the Land in the declaration mentioned"
Whereupon it is considered by the Court that the Plaintiff recover against the Defendant his term yet unexpired in the Land in the declaration mentioned & his costs by him expended in the prosecution of his suit.

Allen Grigsby for being concerned with his brother Lewis Grigsby in fighting of Virginia vs the said Lewis Grigsby who being brought to the bar of the Court was by his Consent fined five dollars for the said offence and entered into recognizance in the penalty of twenty five dollars each for his good behavior for one year from this day
On motion of Lewis Grigsby who was convicted by his own confession before this Court in June last for fighting Allen Grigsby was fined by the Court five dollars with costs and entered into recognizance with Security in the penalty of twenty five dollars each for his good behavior for one year from this day.
William Payne is by the Court recommended to the Executive as a fit person to be appointed Commissioner of the Revenue for the County of Stafford for the year 1824 in the room of Robert Grigg who declines to act as such. It is ordered that the said William Payne take the oath prescribed by Law before some Justice of this County & make return thereof to the next Court.
James Tallman, George Payne, Benjamin Payne William Payne & Thomas Payne are by the Court appointed appraisers of the Estate of William Payne Senr. deceased and ordered to appraise the same and make report thereof according to Law.
Ordered that Reuben B. Taylor be appointed Constable in the district lately occupied by John Gordon Junr. and that he enter into bond & security according to Law.

Lewis Grigsby is by the Court appointed overseer of the road leading from the School house to James Fitzhugh's Mill in the room of Isaac Griggs who is discharged from the same. It is ordered that the said overseer keep the same in repair according to Law.
Upon the motion of Samuel M. Stone it is ordered that he be appointed Guardian to keep a boy of colour named John about ten years old who is bound to him until he shall arrive at the age of twenty one years & that the said Guardian give bond with security according to Law in the Clerk's Office for the penalty of one thousand dollars for the penalty of one thousand dollars for the faithful performance of his duty as Guardian to the said John.
Ordered that William Berry be fined one dollar for failing to attend this morning as a Juror and that a Scire facias issue against him returnable to next Court to shew cause if any he can why the said fine should not be made absolute.

It is ordered that the said Robert Grigg take the oath prescribed by Law before some Justice of this County and make return thereof to the next Court.
