Dont let Science Be Cut

 a decaying lab

Well, I tell ya, down in our neck of the woods, things ain't lookin' too bright,
School board done cut the science teacher, said they couldn't afford the fight.
Now our kids ain't learnin' 'bout atoms or cells, ain't no microscopes in sight,
Just learnin' how to grease a car and maybe weld a pipe just right.

They say science ain't important, ain't nothin' a farmer needs to know,
Just plant your seeds and pray for rain, let the good Lord make it grow.
But what about them chemicals, the ones that make the crops all thrive?
Or understandin' why the weather changes, keepin' our livestock alive?

And what about them new machines, the ones that do a farmer's work?
Gotta know a little science there, ain't no farmin' by the jerk.
Gotta understand the circuits, the gears and all the fuss,
Can't just grunt and holler at it, gotta give it a gentle touch.

Now I ain't sayin' everyone needs to be a scientist, that ain't the case,
But a little knowledge goes a long way, ain't no shame in that embrace.
So next time the school board meets, I hope they see the light,
Cuz cuttin' science ain't no progress, it just leads us back to the night.
