The first settler of Marlinton, West Virginia, was Jacob Marlin. He arrived in the area in 1817 and built a cabin on the banks of the Greenbrier River. Stephen Sewell arrived in Marlinton in 1819 and built his cabin near Marlin's.
Marlin died in 1823, at the age of 43. Sewell died in 1825, at the age of 45. Therefore, Jacob Marlin died first.
