Claira Mildred Kellison

 

Claira Mildred Kellison was born on February 14, 1911, in Marlinton, West Virginia. She was the daughter of William Henry Kellison and Laura Belle (Bowers) Kellison. She had one younger sister, Helen.

Clara attended Marlinton High School, where she was a member of the honor roll and the student council. She was also a talented musician, playing the piano and the organ. After graduating from high school, she attended West Virginia Wesleyan College, where she studied music education.

After graduating from college, Claira taught music in the Marlinton public schools for several years. She then married John William "Bill" Miller in 1934. They had two children, William Henry Miller Jr. and Janette Miller.

Clara continued to teach music after her marriage. She also worked as a church organist and choir director. She was a member of the West Virginia Music Teachers Association and the American Guild of Organists.

Clara was a dedicated music educator and a talented musician. She was a role model for her students and a pillar of the Marlinton community. She passed away on February 14, 1999, at the age of 88.
