Four long years ago in September 1955, a group of thirty-four students entered "the House of Learning" known here and abroad as Hillsboro High School. Those thirty-four were: Stephen Anderson,Charles Bostic, Vangclinc Brown, Fred Copenhaver, Marvin Doss, Christine Gum, Randolph Hall, SamuelHickman, Ann Hillcary, Joe Hollandswortli, Louise Hollandsworth, Joyce Jackson, Rita Jones, Dixie Kershner, Edan Kramer, Midge Kramer, Sandra May, Leo McMillion, Lanty McNeel, Sherlin McNeill, MaryPoage, Ruby Morrison, Shirley Oscar, Randall Price, Emma Pyles, Jane Pyles, Sherman Rose, EloiseRuckman, Daniel Sharp, Benny Smith, Margaret Starks, Ruth Starks, Sue Taylor, Grace Triplett, andNorman Walker. Our officers were: President, Lanty McNeel; Vice-President, Sandra May; Secretary,

faithfully "through the grind." As initiation time approached, the sophomores really gave us a rough
time; but made up for it with the nice party they gave us. Louise Hollandsworth was chosen high school
cheerleader and served for four years. She was also Homecoming Queen Attendant. Jane Pyles was major¬
ette.
As sophomores we entered the halls with twenty-eight members. We lost Christine Gum,
Randolph Hall, Joyce Jackson, Rita Jones, Edna Kramer, Lew McMillion, Mary Poage, Sherman Rose,
and Sue Taylor. We gained Earl Lawson and Jewel Walton. No one will ever know how much fun wc had
putting the Freshmen through die House of Horrors at initiation as we were on die giving and not the re¬
ceiving side. Ann Hillcary was ou Attendant to the Homecoming Queen. Jane Pyles was a majorette, and
Fred Copenhaver was F.H.A. King. Class officers were: President, Lanty McNeel; Vice-President, Sandra
May; Secretary, Midge Kramer; Treasurer, Eloise Ruckman.
In '57 as jolly juniors, we again entered H.H.S. We had twenty-three students. New members were
Billy Cook and Michael Moses. We welcomed Miss Evelyn Given as co-sponsor. Officers this year were:
President, Sandra May; Vice-President, Midge Kramer; Secretary and Treasurer, Eloise Ruckman. This
year Eloise Ruckman was chosen as a high school cheerleader. Jane Pyles was Head Majorette. Louise
Hollandsworth was Homecoming Queen. Members chosen to die National Honor Society were: Dixie
Kersluier, Midge Kramer, Eloise Ruckman, Sandra May, Ann Hilleary, Jane Pyles, Emma Pyles, and
Lanty McNeeL Marvin Doss was chosen F.H.A. King. On November 18, we were the proud receivers of
die most cherished token of our high school days — our class rings. We presented our class play "No
Boys Allowed" on December 13, which was a great success. Our representatives to Know Your State
Government Day were Benny Smidi and Midge Kramer. Lanty McNeel was Chapter Star Future Farmer.
Wc were die proud hosts for die Junior-Senior Prom on May 9. This will always be a cherished memory.
Our ‘58 - ‘59 year is IT! The long-awaited moment when wc were to become Seniors. Wc had twenty-
two members after having lost Marvin Doss, Margarct Starks, and Michael Moses, and gained Tom Feagans.
Our officers were the same as last year. Louise Hollands word) and Eloise Ruckman were Cheerleaders
and Jane Pyles was Head Majorette.
