The name Bruffey Creek in Pocahontas County, West Virginia is named after Patrick Bruffey, an early settler in the area. Patrick Bruffey was a prominent figure in the early history of Pocahontas County. He served as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates from 1792 to 1794 and was a captain in the local militia during the American Revolutionary War. He died in 1817 at the age of 72.
