Marcellus Shale

There is no Marcellus Shale in Pocahontas County, West Virginia. The Marcellus Shale is a geological formation that underlies parts of Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland, and Virginia. However, it does not extend into Pocahontas County.

There are some other shale formations in Pocahontas County, including the Devonian-Mississippian Pocahontas Formation and the Silurian-Devonian Greenbrier Formation. However, these formations do not contain the same high concentrations of natural gas as the Marcellus Shale.

In 2011, the Pocahontas County Commission expressed concern about the potential environmental impacts of Marcellus Shale drilling in the county. The commission also noted that the county's economy is not reliant on fossil fuels, so there is no economic need for Marcellus Shale drilling.

As a result of these factors, it is unlikely that there will be any Marcellus Shale drilling in Pocahontas County in the future.
