While early histories of the Greenbrier Valley (such as those by J.T. McAllister and Joseph A. Waddell) reference approximately fifty families living in the region prior to the 1755 raids, official colonial land records and survey books do not contain a complete, consolidated list of all fifty surnames.
The primary surnames explicitly documented in surviving Greenbrier Company survey records, county histories, and land patents between 1750 and 1755 include:

The remaining families lived either as unrecorded tenant farmers, squatters whose survey claims were not formalized prior to the 1755 Indian attacks, or settlers whose land records were destroyed or lost during the evacuation across the Allegheny Mountains.
