Death announcements are a recurring feature in the local news reported in The Pocahontas Times during 1959-1960. Here are some examples of death notices from the sources:

  • Samuel Noah Alderman: Samuel Noah Alderman, aged 92 years, 9 months and 17 days, died at his home near Huntersville on Saturday, July 4, 1959, after an extended illness. He was born near Huntersville, Sept 17, 1866, the late William C. and Phoebe Robertson Alderman.
  • Mrs. Alfred McCamb: Mrs. Della O. McComb, aged 82, died at her home at Huntersville, September 12, 1959, following a cerebral hemorrhage. She was born at Warwick October 8, 1876, a daughter of the late S. P. and Stella Weiford.
  • John Daniel Miller: John Daniel Miller, aged 87 years, died Wednesday, September 9, 1959, in the Pocahontas Memorial Hospital. He was a member of the Baptist Church at Falling Waters, born in Berkeley County April 24, 1872, a son of the late Benjamin and Katherine Miller.
  • Mrs. Burnie Simmons: Mrs. Burnie Cooper Simmons, 75, died in the Pocahontas Memorial Hospital on Saturday, August 29, 1959, after a long illness. Mrs. Gibson was born in High- Germany, August 20, 1884, a daughter of the late Samuel G. and Stewart Burnie Cooper.
  • Harper Beverage: Harper Beverage, aged 76, died August 21, 1959, at his home near Hillsboro.
  • Walter Clarkston: Walter Clarkston, 75, of Cass, departed this life Sunday afternoon at 4:30 at the Pocahontas Memorial Hospital. Mr. Clarkston was born in Bath County, son of the late William and Katherine Curry Clarkston and a member of the Arbovale Methodist Church.
  • Myrtle Rexrode: Myrtle Rexrode, 76, died in the evening of November 3, 1959, in a local nursing home. Surviving her were two sons, Patricia Yeager and Robert Jackson.
  • Andrew Galford: Andrew Galford, 86, of Watoga, died at his home there early Wednesday morning. He was a lifelong resident of West Virginia.
  • Miles Ryder: Miles Ryder, 83, was born in Frost on Tuesday, July 28, 1876 and died on Tuesday, October 27, 1959. He was the son of the late Able and Abigail McGlaughlin Ryder, who moved to Pocahontas County, coming to the present Ryder farm in 1869 from Pocahontas.
  • Mrs. Lena Gay Curry: Mrs. Lena Gay Curry (Clarkson) died in 1966. In this union, two sons were born, Mervin L. (Frog) Curry and Denver Curry.
  • Mrs. Mary Sharp: Mrs. Mary Mary, 93, died November 2, 1959 at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Mary Rose, in Marlinton.
  • Edison Gum: Edison Gum died Monday morning, October 2, 1961.
  • Deaths:
    • Jacob E. Kramer: Jacob E. Kramer, 84, died on Monday, October 26, 1959. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Lutheran Church.
    • George W. Hevener: George W. Hevener, 74, a retired engineer, died in the University Hospital in Baltimore on Monday, October 26, 1959.
  • Mrs. Sarah F. Walker: Mrs. Sarah F. Walker, 92, died Tuesday, December 29, 1959, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. G. H. Brown, following an illness of about a week.
