This document provides an analysis of the overall proficiency rates in Mathematics, Reading/ELA, and Science for nine high schools across several districts in West Virginia for the year 2024. The data represents the proportion of students who met the proficiency standards in each subject.

Key Observations

Mathematics Proficiency

• Highest Performers: Pocahontas County High School and Princeton Senior High School share the highest proficiency rate at 27%.

• Lowest Performer: Bluefield High School has the lowest proficiency rate at 11%.

• Overall: Mathematics proficiency is the lowest among the three subjects, with an average of 19.6% across the schools. Six of the nine schools have a proficiency rate below 20%.

Reading/ELA Proficiency

• Highest Performer: Greenbrier East High School shows the highest proficiency at 59%.

• Lowest Performer: Summers County Comprehensive HS has the lowest proficiency rate at 30%.

• Overall: Reading/ELA is the strongest subject area, with an average proficiency of 43.8%. All schools have a proficiency rate of 30% or higher.

Science Proficiency

• Highest Performer: Greenbrier East High School leads in Science proficiency at 36%.

• Lowest Performers: Bluefield High School and Summers County Comprehensive HS have the lowest proficiency rates at 18%.

• Overall: The average proficiency in Science is 24.8%.

District-Level Insights

• Greenbrier County: Shows a significant performance gap between its two schools. Greenbrier East outperforms Greenbrier West substantially in all three subjects, particularly in Reading/ELA (59% vs. 39%).

• Mercer County: This district has four schools listed, showing a wide range of results. Princeton Senior High is a strong performer in Math (27%), while Bluefield High School has the lowest Math score (11%) among all listed schools.

• Top Overall Performer: Greenbrier East High School consistently ranks at or near the top in all subjects, especially excelling in Reading/ELA and Science.
