Here is what the sources reveal about the actions of the Pocahontas County Court on December 8th, 1891:

While the sources do mention the Pocahontas County Court, they do not indicate any decisions the court made on December 8th, 1891.

As we have previously discussed, on October 6th, 1891, the Pocahontas County Court ordered that a special election be held on December 8th, 1891 to determine whether or not to move the county seat from Huntersville to Marlinton.

The sources provide some relevant information about this election:

  • The election was to be held at the several established voting places within the county.
  • The county clerk was directed to make out and certify a copy of the court’s order for each voting location.
  • The sheriff was to be provided with copies of the court order to deliver to each voting place in the county.
  • The sheriff was ordered to post a copy of the court’s order at each voting location at least 40 days prior to the election.
  • The court’s order was to be published in The Pocahontas Times or in some other newspaper of general circulation in Pocahontas County three times a week for four weeks prior to the special election.
  • Ballots were to include the words “For Removal of County Seat – For Removal to Marlinton” and “Against Removal of County Seat.”
  • The court appointed three commissioners to conduct the election at each voting precinct in the county.

The sources do not, however, provide any information about the results of the election.
