Pocahontas County WV and The West Virginia Math Matters initiative

 In 2019, the participation rate for the West Virginia Math Matters initiative in Pocahontas County was 95% for elementary schools and 93% for high schools. These participation rates are above the state average of 92% for elementary schools and 91% for high schools.

The West Virginia Math Matters initiative has had a positive impact on student mathematics performance in Pocahontas County. In 2019, Pocahontas County students made significant gains on the West Virginia State Assessment (WVSA) in mathematics. The percentage of Pocahontas County students scoring proficient or above on the WVSA in mathematics increased from 62% in 2018 to 67% in 2019.
