Richard Hill and His Family
Richard Hill was a distinguished early pioneer and defender of the forts, believed to have arrived from North Carolina shortly after the Revolutionary War. He married Nancy McNeel, the daughter of John McNeel, a respected pioneer of the Levels. The couple settled on Hill's Creek, on land that was later occupied by Abram Hill's family.
Richard and Nancy had three daughters - Elizabeth, Martha, and Margaret - and seven sons - Thomas, John, Abraham, Isaac, William, Joel, and George.

Elizabeth married John Bruffey and resided on Bruffey's Creek. Her children were Nancy, Eliza, Martha, Margaret, Julia, Lavinia, and Harriet.
- Nancy married Levi Hooker, a clock dealer from Connecticut, and they made their home in Missouri.
- Eliza became Mrs. Robert [blank] and her family later moved to Iowa. Eliza's son, George P. Moore, lived in Edray and had two brothers, Davis and Clark, who also resided in Iowa.
- Martha married James Ewing and they lived near Marlinton for a while before settling in Nicholas County, West Virginia.
- Margaret married Morgan Anderson, who lived on Hills Creek.
- Julia married William McClure, who lived on Little Anthony's Creek.
- Lavinia married Claiborne Blaine and moved west.
- Harriet married Wesley Cruikshanks and also moved west.
