Sample Lesson Plan Outline

I. Lesson Information

  • Content Area: English
  • Grade Level: Middle School (6th-8th grade)
  • Topic: The Use of the Semicolon in Composition

II. Learning Objectives

  1. Students will be able to identify when to use a semicolon to join two independent clauses.

V. Instructional Procedures

A. Introduction (5 minutes)

  1. Bell Ringer: Write two sentences on the board that could be joined by a semicolon. Ask students how they would combine the sentences (think-pair-share).
